Summer Gripes: Seriously, Hulu?

Can you read what this says? It says, "Need a break? You have been watching for more than 3 hours." This is the message I received last Friday late afternoon from the website, hulu.com (for those of you not familiar with this {pretentious and oppressive} site, it allows you to stream episodes of television shows).

Our mid-week schedule is pretty brutal. We arrive at the office (which is called "The Lab") somewhere between 8 and 8:30 and then run appointments sometimes as late as 7 pm, in 95-110 degree dripping wet heat. Friday is our short day so Kady and I have, for three weeks running, come home and flopped into (our own separate) bed(s) for a nap that has lasted anywhere from 20 minutes to fours hours. Last Friday I was agonizingly tired, but I simply couldn't fall asleep. You can imagine the events that preceded this message of supercilious judgement flashing across my screen.

Do I need a break? From lying flat on my back in bed? Seriously? You know what... my belly is getting kind of hot from the laptop resting on it; thanks for looking out for me.

Do casinos approach patrons on a losing streak and say, "Sir, you've already paid the house $4,000. We don't really need your money and we think you have a problem." Did Hulu really think that the shame and self-loathing that led me to watch three hours of crappy television in the first place needed to be exacerbated by their condescension?

It's like making a sandwich, offering it to someone as theirs and then berating them for consuming it. "I thought you were only going to take a couple bites." THEN WHY DID YOU OFFER ME THE ENTIRE SANDWICH!?

I will have you know, Hulu, that I have a BLOG! A blog that employs the word "supercilious". What have you ever done?

But I still couldn't bring myself to click the "Never show this again" box.

  1. I am SOOOO INCENSED at such insensitivity. It would be like the library saying, "Haven't you checked out enough books?" At any rate, I am glad to hear you are keeping your eggs warm with that laptop....

Your comments are why I get out of bed in the morning. Just kidding. But I do like them.
